Every summer the kids and I head to a local orchard to pick peaches, berries, and veggies.

Last week when we went the peach orchard was closed to the public but we still got a peck of amazingly juicy fresh peaches!  We also spent a good chunk of time among the blueberries and blackberries.  Is there anything better than berries right off the bush?! I mean come on!

After a long morning in the sun ice cream was definitely on our minds!  I found an easy recipe from 'She Wears Many Hats' , and got out our trusty Donvier Ice Cream Maker.  I'm happy to know these are still available from here Amazon!  This is a great little ice cream maker that won't break the bank and really works.  Ours is from the 80's but these new ones look exactly the same.  Hey if it ain't broke why fix it right?
Following along with the recipe I sliced up 1 and 1/2 pounds of our peaches and then

I let the kids do all the work of cooking the sugar base, heating the milk, and mixing it all together.  We let it sit in the fridge overnight while the Donvier insert was in the freezer.

The next afternoon my son turned the Donvier twice every 3 minutes for 20 minutes.  Following that we placed the ice cream in a container in the freezer until dessert time. PERFECT ice cream!  The large chunks of peaches and the sweetness of the graham crackers really works.  YUM!
